Hi my name is Kavita Vallabhaneni…that’s me in the Headquarters video. I am the Manager of Product Marketing and now a blogger. I’m excited about blogging as I’ve never blogged before so I wanted to come up with an interesting topic. I didn’t think my obsession with reality TV would be note-worthy so I chose materials of construction.
There are several materials of construction available for evaporative cooling products. The industry standard is Galvanized Steel. Then there is the shiny, sleek stainless steel but it’s pricy as well. Another is fiberglass reinforced polyester (FRP).
At BAC we like to think outside the box when it comes to corrosion resistant materials of construction. I want to spend this time talking about the TriArmor® Corrosion Protection System. We named it TriArmor® because it has three levels of protection for the cold water basin. It consists of G-235 Galvanized Steel substrate with a Thermosetting Hybrid Polymer and a proprietary Polyurethane Barrier sprayed on the inside of the basin after its been assembled.
We introduced the material after a decade of field and R&D testing. BAC wanted to be assured that the material would last the life of a cooling tower. So we ran it through a gamut of tests including, tension, shear, shock, chemical etc. TriArmor® withstood all these tests with excellent results. Another positive feature about TriArmor® is that it offers superior corrosion resistance compared to Type 304 and 316 stainless steel, but at a lower cost.
Next time, the story continues…who will win: the new edgy TriArmor or the tried and true stainless steel?
