2011 was a busy and exciting year here at Baltimore Aircoil Company! We launched new cooling tower, closed circuit cooling tower, and evaporative condenser units, continued to upload and add more content to the web, and our aftermarket division developed and released a variety of options for our past and present cooling towers.

Five New Products were introduced:

- A new cooling tower box size was introduced – PT2 12×18: With a standard two fan mechanical, the PT2 12×18 packs a big punch, providing a large capacity with critical redundancy.

- A new cooling tower product – PT2 Whisper Quiet Fan: CTI certified, ASHRAE compliant, the PT2 Whisper Quiet Fan adds to BAC’s already extensive low sound arsenal.

- A new closed circuit cooling tower - the new FXV: Providing 33%-50% more capacity, the new FXV comes in a durable array of materials of construction, including BAC’s own TriArmor(R) Corrosion Protection System.

- Two new evaporative condensers – the new CXVB and the PC2: The new CXVB and the PC2 expanded BAC’s evaporative condenser line to now include a unit for every application and situation. More capacity, more materials of construction and more internal options means that BAC’s refrigeration team has a solution for any need.

New Aftermarket Part Opportunities

- Retrofit Access Door can be added to older BAC and competitor models, making maintenance more accessible.

-Nozzles and Grommet Kits for 360™ Spray Nozzles were developed and released, making maintenance and replacement easier, and helping regain lost capacity on older, less maintained cooling towers.

Announced Cooling Tower World – another place to find information about aftermarket parts that BAC sells for BAC’s and competitors’ units.

And stay tuned! We’ve got more in store, and in particular, we are very excited to be revealing a bunch in a few weeks at AHR! Look forward to seeing you there!

ASHRAE has announced the second public review period for Standard 188P, Prevention of Legionellosis Associated with Building Water Systems.

BAC would like to inform both its Customers and Sales Representatives that the American Society of Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Engineers (ASHRAE) has announced the second public review period for Standard 188P, Prevention of Legionellosis Associated with Building Water Systems. The proposed standard provides methods of risk management for the prevention of Legionellosis associated with centralized industrial and commercial building water systems, which would include systems that utilize evaporative cooling equipment. This new version of the proposed standard has been modified by the 188P Committee based on the extensive comments received as a result of the first public review in October of last year.

The new comment period for the proposed standard began on June 10, 2011 and will end July 25, 2011. The proposed standard and instructions for entering online comments can be downloaded from https://osr.ashrae.org/default.aspx. Note that you do not need to be a member of ASHRAE to make a comment on the public review draft.

BAC encourages all interested parties to review the draft of the standard and make any appropriate comments. If you know consulting engineers, building owners, or other interested parties that may be affected by this Standard in the future, we encourage you to pass this information along to them.

The convention was the first stop in a two-week educational tour of the eastern United States, customized to expose the delegation to best practices in cold chain management.

The tour was sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture Foreign Agricultural Service Cochran Fellowship Program (CFP). This program provides US-based agricultural training opportunities for senior and mid-level specialists and administrators from public and private sectors who are concerned with agricultural trade, agribusiness development, management, policy, and marketing.

As part of the tour, the delegates visited Baltimore Aircoil Company’s headquarters to learn more about evaporative condensers in the cold chain market. In addition to participating in product discussions, the executives were given a tour of BAC’s 40,000 sq. ft. research and development laboratory and manufacturing facility in Milford, DE.

BAC is proud to announce the newest PT2 Cooling Tower box size – the 12′ x 18′. Joining an already successful line of PT2 products, the PT2-1218 is bigger and better with up to 787 nominal tons. The PT2-1218 also provides critical redundancy with the standard two fan mechanical, setting it apart from all other induced draft, counterflow cooling towers on the market.

Additional features of the PT2 include:

All units, including the PT2-1218, can be rigged in a one piece lift.

The PT2 continues to have easy maintenance features with the external motor adjustment wrench, inward sliding doors that do not limit workspace, BranchLok™ Removal System for tool-less spray branch removal, removable inspection panels (optional), and motor removal davits (optional).

PT2 is seismically verified through dynamic shake table testing up to a SDS of 2.93g at grade and meets wind load ratings of up to 130 psf.

All units meet or exceed ASHRAE Standard 90.1 energy efficiency requirements.

Available in durable materials of construction, including TriArmor® Corrosion Protection System and EVERTOUGH™ Construction.
